Van Gaal says it’s over after leaving the Manchester United team hotel on Sunday

With reports of Jose Mourinho’s imminent appointment as Manchester United’s new manager taking the media by storm, the Dutchman himself has hinted that his time at Old Trafford is up.

Less than 24 hours after registering the most important victory of his career as Manchester United manager, Louis van Gaal has dropped a massive hint which almost confirms reports that he will no longer be the manager of the club next season.

As the Dutchman was leaving the team hotel on Sunday, he was asked by a Sky Sports reporter about whether he would like to talk, to which Van Gaal said, “No. No. It’s over,” according to the Guardian.

The Spanish media had initially broken the story about Jose Mourinho finally being appointed as Manchester United manager this week, and reputed British media houses like BBC and Sky Sports soon confirmed that this was indeed the case.

This latest revelation comes just hours after Manchester United’s FA Cup final triumph against Crystal Palace, after which Louis van Gaal remained defiant in the post-match press conference.

“I show you the Cup, I don’t discuss my future with the media,” he had said, before leaving with the cup while sarcastically saying, “Thanks for the congratulations.”

FA Cup was never enough for Manchester United

On Saturday, Louis van Gaal led the Red Devils to their first major trophy since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, and their first FA Cup triumph since 2004. It was a historic day for the club and a time for jubilation as they ended a dismal season on a high. However, the FA Cup was never going to be enough to keep Van Gaal at the helm of one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Manchester United failed to challenge for the Premier League, crashed out of the Champions League and were knocked out of the Europa League by arch-rivals Liverpool. These results combined with a severely criticized style of play have all led to the downfall of the Iron Tulip and official confirmation of this news will now surely be forthcoming.
