Manchester City might have overcome Everton FC’s challenge in the semi final of the League Cup, but their victory was marred by the controvercial goal that was scored by Kevin De Bruyne.

Left winger Raheem Sterling seemed to have taken the ball out of play before squaring it into the box for the Belgian to finish off. Replays and freezeframes clearly show that the England international should indeed have been flagged for taking it over the line.

However the referee waved play on, as De Bruyne went on to score the goal that put the Citizens level 3-3 on aggregate, at that point. They did go on to win the match with a goal from Sergio Agruero, as De Bruyne himself went off with an injury. Here are some of the best twitter reactions from the match.
