Liverpool have signed 25-year old Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum for £25 million from Newcastle United. Fans on Twitter didn’t really know what to make of this transfer.
The versatile Dutchman had been linked with Tottenham Hotspur, but the Reds have snapped him from the Toons for a sizable transfer fee. Wijnaldum is the fifth signing by Klopp and Liverpool this summer, after Joel Matip, Sadio Mane, Loris Karius and Ragnar Klavan.

However, Liverpool fans were left a bit confused by this latest transfer business. Wijnaldum joins an already packed midfield consisting of Mane, Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana amongst others.

It’s quite clear Wijnaldum isn’t here to play as a CAM. Seems that Klopp will try convert him into a proper CM. Could work.

Wijnaldum is, presumably, the alternative to Zielinski. Central/wide midfielder with decent pace. Not quite CAM, not quite CM.

I understand the acquisition of Klavan due to the CB injury crisis but a natural CAM Wijnaldum for £20m while a CM is more of a priority?
