Popular pundit Clinton Morrison, has urged Mikel Arteta to prioritise signing a striker and a winger if he wants to retain the Premier League crown.
Arsenal ended their 22-year wait for a Premier League title, and despite narrowly missing out on the Champions League, they had an exceptional season. The league title is a reward for their hard work throughout the campaign, and there are now suggestions that they could go on to dominate for years to come.
However, there are some crucial additions needed on this side, especially in the attacking third, as Mikel Arteta has already been told which positions he needs to strengthen. A new striker and a winger are being cited as key areas by pundit Clinton Morrison.
Morrison’s comments appeared on TeamTalk, where he explained what Arteta needs in the upcoming transfer window. He also stated that the pressure will be on other teams to knock the Gunners off their perch, but emphasised that these two signings are essential if the north Londoners are to retain their Premier League crown.
Morrison said: “They do need another striker to put pressure on Gyokeres and contend with Kai Havertz.
“They need an out-and-out quality striker. And they do need another left winger because they might lose a few players like Gabriel Jesus, who wants to go and play regular football.”
Morrison went on to state that he is confident Arsenal will strengthen their squad and suggested the onus is on other teams to challenge Arteta’s side.
He continued: “They need to keep evolving and improving. I think Arsenal will strengthen again in the summer. I think they’ll be the team everyone is looking at as capable of dominating for a few years now. It’s down to the other teams to put pressure on Arsenal.
“I know that’s not maybe how Arteta always wants to set his teams up, but I feel like they have to go to that next level and continue to evolve and progress.”
Arsenal are indeed looking for a new left winger, but there are no concrete names strongly linked at the moment. There are reports suggesting interest in Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi, with the Frenchman capable of playing on the left as well as through the middle.
They were also reportedly offered Rafael Leao in recent days following the Portuguese winger’s statement suggesting he is ready to leave AC Milan. Arsenal are also reportedly interested in Julian Alvarez, with the Atletico Madrid striker in demand as Barcelona are pushing to complete a deal.
Overall, Arteta is aware of his squad’s needs, and the direction of travel points to attacking reinforcements arriving this summer. For now, there are no concrete links apart from some reports suggesting interest in Morgan Rogers, but for a left winger and a new striker, fans may have to wait a little longer for firm developments.
