Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes set for Newcastle United stay

Newcastle United are favourites to keep hold of mercurial duo Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes despite links to big-money switches.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle United could keep mercurial duo Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes this summer. The Magpies stars are linked with big-money switches to Chelsea and Manchester City, respectively, although Eddie Howe’s side is in a position of power to keep them.

Newcastle United to keep Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes

Ahead of the summer, there were considerable doubts about the futures of mercurial duo Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes. The latter had a sizeable release clause, believed in the region of £100 million, which did expire on June 24, meaning Newcastle United can now dictate the terms of his exit, and they will not let him leave on the cheap.

The PSR regulations meant the Magpies needed to raise considerable cash ahead of the June 30 deadline, which has now passed. Newcastle United managed to offload Eliott Anderson and Yankuba Minteh for big sums, which appears to have solved their financial issues.

Guimaraes attracted plenty of interest from top teams, including Arsenal and Manchester City. Rumours linked him to a switch to La Liga. Manchester City were more likely to sign him, with the Gujnners waiting in the wings should Newcastle United reduce their asking price.

With the financial issues now resolved in the background, Newcastle United will likely price Manchester City out of the chase. Even if Pep Guardiola’s side wants him, they will have to pay a huge sum, which could even be more than his previously reported £100 million release clause.

Alexander Isak will be very expensive

Like Guimaraes, Newcastle United will adopt a similar strategy with Isak, and they have already spalled a £100 million price tag on Anthony Gordon. Sticking with Isak, the Swede also had Arsenal’s interest early on, but it does appear that Mikel Arteta has already switched the attention towards a different profile. The Magpies are also confident of a new deal for the striker, which would effectively end speculation once and for all.

Chelsea are seemingly interested, although there’s a belief that Isak is happy at Newcastle and that the club has no intention of selling the Swedish striker. Either way, there are doubts whether the London side has the mood to spend rather significantly, probably more than £100 million, on Isak, meaning the Magpies will have a successful summer keeping hold of their mercurial duo.
