Newcastle United confident of agreeing on a new contract with Alexander Isak

Newcastle United are optimistic about agreeing a new deal with their star forward Alexander Isak amidst transfer links.

According to a report from Football Insider, Newcastle United are keen on keeping hold of their attacking sensation Alexander Isak and they are confident about agreeing on a new contract with the Swedish international amidst interest from a rival club.

Isak joined Newcastle United in the summer of 2022 after making a name for himself at Real Sociedad. He has had a significant rise under Eddie Howe and was one of their best players last time out. The 24-year-old striker was involved in 40 matches last season and he ended up scoring 25 goals.

Chelsea’s interest in Isak, Newcastle’s PSR concerns

His performances didn’t go unnoticed and there is significant interest in his services. Chelsea are one of the clubs keen on signing the former Sociedad forward. The Blues want to bring in a new number nine on a priority basis and Isak could be an ideal fit for their project which revolves around young stars.

Their interest in him was brought about because of concerns regarding Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) at Newcastle. But, the Magpies managed to sort things out before the deadline to submit accounts on 30 June. They cashed in on Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson to address the financial issues.

Their PSR worries have eased which means they are no longer under pressure to sell their stars. While the Blues did approach the Magpies, they do not have any intentions of parting ways with Isak and are working a new deal for their ace.

Newcastle confident about extending Isak’s stay

The player is believed to be flattered by Chelsea’s interest but he remains happy at Newcastle. The player is in no rush to leave St James’ Park. Meanwhile, Newcastle want to reward him for his performances last season and secure his long-term future at the club.

His current deal still has four years left but they are ready to offer him another contract with fresh terms and are confident that he will put pen to paper. They might have missed out on European football for next season, but the club are expected to make necessary changes to bounce back and they want to ensure Isak remains an integral part of their project going ahead.
