Manchester City most likely to sign Bruno Guimaraes

Manchester City are reportedly best placed to sign Bruno Guimaraes, as they are contemplating triggering his release clause.

According to Ben Jacobs, Manchester City are the best-placed club to sign Bruno Guimaraes in the summer and could trigger his release clause. The exit terms stand at £100 million for the 26-year-old Newcastle star, as there are other sides keen on his signature.

Manchester City to trigger Bruno Guimaraes clause?

Manchester City were expected to reignite their pursuit of Lucas Paqueta in the summer, but the midfielder’s impending betting charges mean the Premier League champions have once again abandoned the pursuit for the exact same reason.

However, with one Brazilian off their list, they have added another, Bruno Guimaraes. The 26-year-old Newcastle star was always considered a target by Pep Guardiola. Manchester City are making some midfield changes, and the manager might see Guimaraes fit in nicely with his settings.

There have been reports of some interested sides abandoning the pursuit following Newcastle’s reluctance to reduce his £100 million asking price. The figure also happens to be his release clause, as the Magpies are reluctant to lose him, and only a club triggering the terms will see Guimaraes leave St James Park.

Meanwhile, it appears that Manchester City might be best placed to trigger that clause and bring the midfielder to the Etihad during the summer. Whether the player has any interest in joining Guardiola’s side remains to be seen, although if he has ambitions to win trophies, he might say yes to their project.

Who else is interested in Guimaraes

Manchester City could sweep the other rivals for Guimaraes, but they might face some serious competition for his services. Ben Jacobs does point towards Arsenal, who had established contacts with his agents alongside Man City, but the Gunners are not ready to pay £100 million and will only come into the picture if the price drops.

PSG have also cooled their interest, although Jacobs, with his connections with Saudi Arabia, states a few SPL clubs are keen, with Al-Hilal open to triggering his release clause. While the 26-year-old Newcastle star does feel happy at St James Park, he might even open the door for a big move away.
