Manchester United are open to a swap deal which could see them bring Donyell Malen and let Jadon Sancho join Borussia Dortmund.
According to Football Insider, Manchester United might consider a swap deal with Borussia Dortmund that would see Donyell Malen come to Old Trafford, with Jadon Sancho going the other way. Both clubs might feel such a move might tick a lot of boxes, particularly for the Red Devils.
Manchester United contemplate swap deal for Donyell Malen
Manchester United are eager to solve one big Jadon Sancho-sized problem by considering a swap deal for the 23-year-old for another Borussia Dortmund star. The Red Devils have been interested in Donyell Malen since January and could now formulate a plan to bring the Dutchman to Old Trafford.
A recent report suggested Borussia Dortmund could offer Malen in a swap deal and take Jadon Sancho on a permanent deal. Manchester United are open to the idea, which could prove beneficial for them in the long term. Malen, who has 13 goals this term, has been in good form since the turn of the year, and his versatility in the frontline could have appealed to Manchester United.
Both clubs could set a similar asking price for Malen and Sancho, which would make a straight swap sensible. However, they must focus on the finer financial details, especially Dortmund with Sancho, considering the 23-year-old remains one of the highest-paid stars at Old Trafford.
Should the Bundesliga club end up signing Sancho on a permanent basis, the 23-year-old must take a significant pay cut. Replacing him with Malen could make sense for Manchester United, as the Dutchman could play on the wings as well as lead the line when required, as his versatility is something the club need to include in their squad at the moment.
Jadon Sancho’s future explained
Sancho joined Borussia Dortmund on loan after failing to solve his issues with Erik ten Hag. Manchester United had thought about bringing him back should they part ways with the Dutch manager. However, the water is under the bridge with this particular issue, as a permanent departure would make sense for all parties concerned.
Sancho remains keen to join Dortmund on a permanent basis, although financials could have a big say in that decision-making process. Should a Premier League club arrive in the mix and offer a much better package to the 23-year-old, then his decision could still change, which would, in turn, affect Manchester United’s plans to sign Malen.
