Manchester United are leading the race for the signature of Donyell Malen
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano via Caught Offside, Borussia Dortmund star Donyell Malen could be on the move in the upcoming summer transfer window with Manchester United among those keeping tabs.
The Dutch star is an electric presence for Dortmund on the wing and will certainly add a new dimension to Erik ten Hag’s attack. Both Jadon Sancho and Antony are misfiring, and the Red Devils have struggled to make the most of the flanks.
The 25-year-old is entering the prime of his career and one can argue that Malen is yet to show his best. Malen is primarily a winger but can play anywhere along the frontline, adding versatility and dynamism to a modern-day attack.
United were linked with the player in January and with the player set to seek a move at the end of the season, Old Trafford is a viable option. After all, the Red Devils retain a good relationship with the player’s agents, paving the way for positive talks should they get there.
However, Arsenal and Liverpool are also keen on the Dutchman. Both teams are on the rise and are currently challenging for the Premier League title. But then, it is far form guaranteed that Malen will receive regular playing time on either side.
He is likely to play second fiddle to Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and even maybe Leandro Trossard. Liverpool are also spoilt for riches and are unlikely to go all out unless Mohamed Salah leaves. With a new manager set to come in, the Reds might also be set for a new era of tactics, negating their move for certain players.
Liverpool beat Manchester United to Cody Gakpo last year, it remains to be seen if lightning will strike twice. United, for their part have sent Jadon Sancho on loan to Dortmund until the remainder of the season.
With the Entglishman not getting along with Erik ten Hag, offering him in a swap deal for Malen is something worth exploring.
