Manchester United want to land the 25-year-old Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Exequiel Palacios in their ranks.
According to SportBILD via SportWitness, Manchester United are planning for a big first summer under their new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The Red Devils are expected to make a few major signings and they have already started making moves. Bayer Leverkusen’s Exequiel Palacios is one of their targets.
Palacios’ impressive rise at Leverkusen
The German club have been doing wonders in the ongoing season. They are currently on top of the Bundesliga and have been unbeaten so far. Xabi Alonso has turned them into a winning machine and is making them play an attacking and attractive brand of football.
Leverkusen’s dominant performances in the German top flight have naturally put the majority of their players on the radar of clubs from across Europe. Palacios is one of the players who has caught the attention of a few top clubs.
He has taken his game to the next level under Alonso. The 25-year-old Argentine midfielder has played the majority of the games in a defensive role in the ongoing season and he still has seven goal contributions.
United’s pursuit of another defensive midfielder
The Argentine international has been a consistent performer for the German club and his consistency has put him on the radar of Manchester United.
The Red Devils will undergo major changes under the new ownership. The club is looking to have the best people in the most important positions inside the club so that they can return to their glory days. While their focus will be on young players who have huge potential, United are expected to make a few major signings and Palacios could be one of them.
They need another defensive-minded midfielder who can take charge alongside Kobbie Mainoo with Casemiro on the decline. The Argentine midfielder is a player that the Red Devils really admire, they want to sign him ahead of next season.
The Manchester-based club are already in talks with Leverkusen over the potential transfer of the 25-year-old. But, since there is no release clause in his deal, United will find it difficult to prise him away as Leverkusen have no intentions to sell.
The Leverkusen midfielder is currently valued at €40 million and that’s the minimum that the Red Devils will need to fork out to stand a chance of signing Palacios.
