Liverpool will reportedly compete with Newcastle United for 24-year-old Brazilian midfielder Ederson, a target for Juventus.
According to a report by Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Ederson is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are in the market for a midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the 24-year-old Atalanta midfielder is also a target for Newcastle United.
Who is Ederson?
Ederson Jose dos Santos Lourenco da Silva, better known as Ederson, has made considerable progress since moving to Europe. His first foray into the continent came when he joined Salernitana in January 2022. But his stint at the Italian club lasted only six months, and he joined Atalanta in July 2022.
The 24-year-old has been a mainstay in the middle of the park for La Dea in the last 18 months. Ederson’s performance levels have improved considerably this season, as he has six goals and one assist in 27 appearances thus far. Meanwhile, the player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs.
Reports in November had linked the Brazilian midfield enforcer with Barcelona. Meanwhile, Premier League bigwigs are also keen on securing Ederson’s services in the summer transfer window. Liverpool and Newcastle United are interested in signing the Atalanta midfielder.

Liverpool’s interest in Ederson is understandable, considering they need a holding midfielder. While the 24-year-old is primarily a box-to-box midfielder, he is equally adept at reprising a defensive role. As for Newcastle United, the Magpies are in the market for a midfielder after losing Sandro Tonali to a betting ban.
