Michael Olise has £40 million-plus release clause; Chelsea, Liverpool interested

Michael Olise reportedly has a £40 million-plus release clause in his new contract at Crystal Palace, with Liverpool and Chelsea keen.

According to Football Insider, Michael Olise’s contract consists of a £40 million-plus clause clause, which could attract massive interest in the winger. Chelsea are already in the hunt again, while Liverpool could also look at the winger as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah.

Michael Olise’s release clause

Back in the summer, Chelsea caused all sorts of concerns to Crystal Palace fans when they activated Michael Olise’s £35 million release clause. At one stage, the winger seemed destined to join the Blues but made a U-turn and signed a new Palace deal.

While earlier reports suggested Palace might have taken off the clause altogether, he still has a £40 million-plus clause in the current deal. The prospect of signing the winger for that kind of money will undoubtedly attract many teams, with Chelsea and Liverpool being a few of the teams likely to come knocking on the door.

Chelsea could reignite their interest and present a fresh proposal for Olise to consider. The £40 million-plus clause will undoubtedly attract the Blues to come in again. Liverpool are also in the race, as Jurgen Klopp possibly views the Frenchman as a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah.

Palace will know they have another big fight on their hands, possibly next summer, as they will want to ward off rival interest in their star man. They did that successfully last summer, but there are doubts about whether they can repeat it beyond June.

How would the £40 million-plus clause benefit Olise?

For starters, teams will know the fixed price on their contracts, meaning much will depend on what teams offer in the way of a contract. Olise will have loads of options on his table and will make a decision based on the best offers.

He reportedly prefers a move to Arsenal, and the Gunners are likely to enter the summer market for a new winger. Olise has been on their radar, but Chelsea and Liverpool could pose significant threats in the race. As for Palace, it’s a big problem, considering they will probably lose their star winger next season.

The £40 million-plus clause does not really represent excellent value for their efforts to re-sign the winger last summer. Hence, the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool will have a great option in the market next summer, as Olise is unlikely to leave in January.
