Win Over Swansea Could Be The Turning Point For Manchester United, Says Juan Mata

With Manchester United’s eight-match winless run coming to an end after a 2-1 victory over Swansea City on Saturday, playmaker Juan Mata believes that this could be a turning point in their otherwise miserable season.

A lot of doubt had been raised over Manchester United’s style of play and Louis van Gaal’s philosophy in recent times, and the eight-match winless run has left the Red Devils knocked out from the Champions League in the group stage and out of the top four spots in the Premier League.

Many of the fans had also showed their ire towards Van Gaal, shouting slogans that called for his sacking and the installment of Jose Mourinho as the manager of Manchester United. However, Mata believes that the win in their first match in 2016 is a sign of better things to come.

“Finally, we did it on Saturday against Swansea. You could see how tough it was, but I think we deserved the three points. I hope this is going to be the start of a good run of results. It depends on us,” wrote the Spaniard in his blog on Kicca.

La Liga catching up with Premier League competitiveness?

There has been a lot of talk about how competitive the Premier League has been this season, and how the other top leagues have not been able to match up to it. However, La Liga has also been a lot tougher than usual, with teams like Celta Vigo and Villarreal challenging the might of the two giants. In fact, Atletico Madrid currently leads the proceedings by two points, having played only one game more than FC Barcelona.

“In Spain, la Liga is getting very interesting. Atletico climbed to the top spot following Barcelonaai??i??s draw at Espanyol. Two years ago, Simeoneai??i??s team already showed that they can cope with the pressure and be a title contender,” wrote Mata. “There was a great, thrilling game in Mestalla on Sunday, with goals and a final draw between Valencia and Real Madrid. None of them were too happy with the score.”
