Manchester United: Smalling Signs New Contract To Extend His Stay Until 2019

Defender Chris Smalling has signed a new Manchester United deal which will see him stay at the club until June 2019.

Manchester United have reward Smalling with a new contract after the Englishman has improved his from considerably this season. The 25-year olda s previous contract was due to expire in 2016 and the defender was being linked with a move away from the club. However, Smallinga s new deal means that he will remain a Red Devil until at least June 2019.

Praising the defender, manager, Louis Van Gaal said on the club’s official website: “Chris has improved and developed immensely during the short time that I have been at the club and has become an integral part of the first-team squad. He always conducts himself in a very professional manner and it is also pleasing that he has scored some important goals this season too. I am delighted he has signed a new contract.”

Speaking after grabbing the new deal, Smalling said: “Ia m delighted to sign my new contract. I am so proud to play for such a great club. We have developed as a team over the course of the season under Louis van Gaal and we are now playing as a complete unit. This is a very exciting time to be at Manchester United, we are all determined to get back to where we belong and competing at the highest level.”

Chris Smalling joined Manchester United from Fulham in 2010 for A?10.5 million. The defender has played 147 games, scored 9 goals and won two Premier League medals with United.

Smallinga s contract extension raises questions about Phil Jones and Johnny Evansa future at the club. Both the centre-backs run out of contract in 2016 and with talks of Hummelsa probable transfer to Manchester United, either of Jones or Evans are bound to be forced out of the club.
