Liverpool FC striker Fabio Borini looks set to end his underwhelming spell at Anfield as West Ham have emerged as a potential destination for the striker.
Fabio Borini was Brendan Rodgers’s first signing as Liverpool boss in the summer of 2012, but the Italian has failed to establish himself at Merseyside.
His first season was largely hampered with injury and he could only make 13 league appearances, with 8 of those coming from the bench, scoring one goal in the process. He was sent out on loan to Sunderland the next season and did extremely well under Gus Poyet. He scored seven goals and got two assists and was extremely effective towards the tail end of the campaign helping the Black Cats stay up. It was a positive season for the former Roma and Chelsea player and he must have thought he had a chance at future under Rodgers. However, it was made clear to him that he will not be playing a key role if he were to stay. Liverpool went extremely close to selling him to Sunderland and later QPR, with terms for a A?10m move agreed between the two clubs. But Borini was adamant about staying at the club and fighting for his future, an admirable move, but one which didn’t help the player. He only made 12 league appearances for the side, with only 3 of them being starts. He got a solitary goal and an assist to his name last season and the 24 year old is now obviously looking for a move away from the club.
Borini’s agent recently said his client feels like a “caged lion” at Liverpool and he would move away for “a new experience”.
“Fabio wants a new experience,” Borini’s agent Marco De Marchi said to Italian sports newspaper Corriere dello Sport. “We expected more consideration from Liverpool.
“There are teams from all over Europe interested in him. Top clubs in Europe are keen on him, from the Premier League to the Bundesliga and there also clubs in Italy, but many clubs in Italy have had coaching changes and that has slowed things down.
“He has no preference, he just wants a team that gives him a clear chance to prove himself. Right now he feels like a lion in a cage.”
It looks like he will get a chance to reignite his career at Upton Park as Liverpool have received an offer from West Ham for the forward believed to be in the region of A?8m.
This fee for the out of favor Borini will definitely be enough to convince Liverpool who bought him from Roma at A?10.5m. While it is still a A?2.5m loss, Liverpool will still view this as a win-win situation and unless they are looking to make a profit for the player, it is likely that he will be sold to the Hammers without the need for many “negotiations”.
New Hammers manager Slaven Bilic is looking to reinforce his squad for next season and has already attained the services of exciting winger Dimitri Payet from Marseille.
Liverpool will also be offloading one of Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli, if not both, as the Reds have signed Danny Ings from Burnley and also have Divock Origi returning from loan next season. They are also looking to add a top quality striker and will have Daniel Sturridge return to action around October after a lengthy absence.
