Liverpool Defender Wants To Fight For Future At Club Amidst Crystal Palace Loan Links

Liverpool FC defender Jose Enrique is set to fight for his future at the Merseyside club as rumors of Alan Pardew wanting him on loan at Crystal Palace till the end of the season have started doing rounds.

Palace need a left-back this January as Julian Ward, who is naturally a right-back, has been operated on the opposite flanks on most occasions with former Liverpool defender Martin Kelly being used as a right back.

According to Jason Percy of The Telegraph, Pardew has made inquiries about the Spaniard and wants to bring him on loan at Selhust Park to offer him regular football and boost the club’s push for Premier League survival.

Brendan Rodgers has commented recently that some Liverpool players might be going out on loan because they aren’t getting game time at the club, “If everyone stays there might be a few who need to go out on loan because they are not playing so much.”

With just five starts and two substitute appearances this season, the 28 year old certainly fits the bill. He hasn’t started a game since last month’s draw with Basel in the Champions League at Anfield.

Liverpool ECHO report that Enrique is determined to stay at Anfield and fight off competition for a starting spot in Rodgers’ side. They report: ECHO understands the 28-year-old is determined to stay put and force his way back into Brendan Rodgers ‘ side.

The arrival of Alberto Moreno has seen Enrique been receded to the bench. He has also been sidelined for a significant amount of time with injury. The former Newcastle man has not capitalized on the few chances he has got. Once Jon Flanagan returns to the fold, he would be further pushed down the order. With Rodgers switching to the 3-4-2-1, Lazar Markovic has also been used in the wing-back position on the left side and Enrique could only expect chances if an injury crisis prevails at the club.

While it is admirable that the 28 year old left back wants to fight for his future at the Merseyside club, he has the slimmest of chances of making it at the club so the ideal thing for all three parties would be for him to go on loan at Crystal Palace
