Can Manchester United ‘Swap’ David De Gea For Real Madridai??i??s Sergio Ramos?

The latest reports coming out of England seem to suggest that Manchester United want to sign Sergio Ramos in a swap deal in return for letting Real Madrid sign goalkeeper David De Gea this summer. While reports suggesting David De Geaa s move to Spain has gathered momentum over the past few months, Sergio Ramos seems to be suddenly available in the market with Barcelona presidential candidate Jordi Majo claiming to sign the Spaniard if he were to win the elections at the club.

Putting Things In Perspective

Manchester United are in the market for a defender as reports link the club with Real Madrida s Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos along with Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng. Meanwhile the club is also poised to losing its star goal-keeper David De Gea who has refused to sign a a profitablea contract at Old Trafford. The Spaniard goal-keeper is looked on as Iker Casillasa successor in the national team and could very well spell Casillasa end at the Bernabeu if he were to successfully move to Real Madrid.

The two transfers, though both possible, are completely different in nature, making a swap deal a near impossibility this summer.

Sergio Ramosa contract runs till 2017 which means that the club has a year and a half in hand to negotiate with the player who is reportedly only angling for a better contract with Real Madrid by fanning reports suggesting an imminent departure.

Spanish journalist Guillem Balague has suggested . that though Manchester Uniteda s interest in a defender of Sergio Ramosa quality is not surprising, Real Madrid do not want to part with him as he is not up for negotiations.

a Number one his buy-out clause is 200m euros. More importantly, Real Madrid do not want to negotiate, do not want to sell the player.a

a You can also mention that Sergio Ramos also wants a new contract. His current one finishes in 2017, he feels he deserves better treatment than he is getting, financially anyway, and I think this is just part of negotiations.a

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand also reiterated this stance stating that though Sergio Ramos would be a great signing for the club, it seemed that the player was merely using Manchester Uniteda s interest in him to land a better offer from Real Madrid.

David De Gea on the other hand has refused to sign a contract extension with Manchester United, who in their desperation, have offered the Spaniard a a lot of moneya , as confessed by Louis Van Gaal himself. De Gea wants to move because of concerns regarding his family and his girlfriend with Real Madrid being the likely destination as he is based from the Spanish capital. The player has reportedly agreed to personal terms with Real Madrid and the club now has to reach an agreement with Manchester United.

However, as reported earlier, David De Gea is also concerned with Iker Casillasa influential presence at the club and would rather move with the player not staying back at Santiago Bernabeu. At the same time, since David De Gea wants to leave due to family issues, it seems unlikely that he will be willing to run out his contract with Manchester United for another season. He is keen to shifting to Real Madrid with the club keen on acquiring his services too. However, Manchester United are reportedly playing hard-ball with Real Madrid and are keen to drag this transfer saga over the summer.

De Gea Tipped To Join Real Madrid This Summer

Tipped to succeed Iker Casillas as the captain, Ramos on the other hand has not expressed any desire to leave and only wants to be monetarily appreciated at Real Madrid and is angling for a better contract before committing his future to the club. This is not to say that the defender might not leave Real Madrid this summer or in any of the subsequent transfer windows. Journalist Sid Lowe has underlined the lack of trust between Ramos and President Florentino Perez and believes that the President is wary of Ramosa popularity with the fans, which he accuses the player of using in order to land a better contract.

But with his contract due to expire in 2017, Real Madrid will be under no pressure to sell him this summer and would most likely use the coming season to further evaluate his position before deciding upon his future. As expressed by Balague, the main issue is David De Gea. Sergio Ramos does not figure in any swap deal and is an issue completely different from that of De Geaa s.
