Arsenal And Manchester United Target Reid Has No Future At West Ham, Says Allardyce

West Ham boss has admitted that it is highly unlikely that Winston Reid will stay at West Ham beyond the end of the season.

Arsenal and Manchester United have been linked with a move for West Ham centre-back Winston Reid, who is in the last six months of his contract. Hammers boss Sam Allardyce has admitted that the New Zealand international is unlikely to extend his stay and will move on at the end of the season.

The West Ham boss said, “There is no future for Winston Reid at West Ham United at the moment because his contract finishes.

“The only thing is that his contract finishes June 30. He hasn’t said he is going to sign and he hasn’t said he isna t.

“But you would you err on the side that he isn’t by the feel and the look of it at this moment in time, by the know-how in the football world I have been talking to – other managers and so forth about the situation so I would say it is highly unlikely that Winston is going to sign for us based on what people are saying to me.”

The January transfer window is an opportunity for West Ham to get something for the defender but Allardyce has previously stated he would not sell Reid in this transfer window for less than A?20m. “We have had no approaches,” he said.

Arsenal have struggled with various injury woes all season and are in the market for a defender and a defensive midfielder in January. Reid has been linked with a move to the Emirates for a while now with Arsene Wenger believed to be interested in signing the centre-half. While Wenger will want to sign a defender in January, Allardycea s demand of A?20 million for Reida s services may prove to be a barrier.

On the other hand, Manchester United are another club looking to strengthen their defence in January. Manchester United have been linked with a move for Hummels and Reid among other defenders. While Van Gaal does not have any budget constraints, signing Hummels mid season might prove to be a highly costly affair. Meanwhile, spending A?20 million for Reida s services may not be a bad idea for the Red Devils.

If Winston Reid does not move in the January transfer window, he will be available as a free agent in the summer. In the summer, more than one club will be interested in signing the defender, considering they will only have to agree personal terms with the 26-year old.
