Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is confident his side will bounce back from the loss against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last night.
The Premier League side was criticized for its uninspired display. The eventual 2-0 scoreline doesn’t show the dominance Dortmund had for the entire match, with Arsenal barely showing any creative spark. Mesut Ozil got grilled by fans and pundits alike, again while new signing Danny Welbeck failed to score for the Gunners, despite getting a few chances you expect a striker of a top club to convert, including aAi??Ai??one-on-one with Roman Weidenfeller.
To further add worries to the matter, Wilshere appeared to injure his troublesome ankle in the final minutes of the game. He did remain on the pitch as Arsene Wenger had used all three of his substitutions.
“We’ll bounce back. Our next Champions League game (against Galatasaray on October 1) is at home and hopefully we’ll get the three points,” the 22-year-old told the Evening Standard.
“It’s never nice to lose a game – we wanted to come here and win – but that was our first Champions League group game.Ai??We have got five more so we have an opportunity to try and get 15 points and that is what we’ll try to do.Ai??It hasn’t quite clicked for us yet but we’ve got a lot of quality players and I’m sure it’ll come right.”
Wilshere did however, give credit to the opposition.
“They are a good team and we have got to be a bit smarter when we come to places like this,” he told the paper.
“With their gameplan, they wanted to press us high up the pitch and we let them do it in the first half.Ai??We started the second half quite brightly in the first couple of minutes and then unfortunately it was the same thing again on the counter attack and then the game is over.Ai??We had a few chances and even at 2-0, Danny had a chance and if he had scored that maybe the last 10 minutes would have been a different game.”
Meanwhile Arsene Wenger has asked the supporters to be patient with Wenger claiming that the player will improve with time. He said,ai???Danny will improve, I donai??i??t think we have to make a problem of that.Ai??He had a very lively first half. He had two or three good chances but couldnai??i??t finish them. There was one obvious one. We have to be patient with him. The paradox of the night is that we had very good chances to score first, but they then scored from counterattacks.ai???
