Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has said that he is dreaming of the title, but for Liverpool to materialize that dream, they would have to not get distracted and perform in every match.
Steven Gerrard has been regarded as one of the legends of the game and has all the top honors, which he has received during his career at Anfield, but for the coveted league title.
Liverpool have not won the competition in 24 years, but are presently in the pole position to do the job. The Reds have six matches remaining which include trips from other the title contenders (arguably ‘title favorites’), Manchester City and Chelsea.
Manager Brendan Rodgers has continuously maintained that Liverpool were not aspiring for the title and are focusing at each game individually. He even said that the Champions League spot, which was the club’s priority at the start of the season, is als not guaranteed because there are a lot of points to still play for. However, it seems that even Steven Gerrard has hopes of adding the trophy to his collection as the Reds have already won eight games on the trot and look to extend it this weekend as they take on the Hammers.
“It is important for myself and the players to try to not forget about the dream but try to park it up, as dreams only happen when you get the job done and there are six hard matches still to play”, said Steven Gerrard
When the midfielder was asked whether he was dreaming about winning the title, he said:
“I think I’d be a liar if I said no.Ai??It is flashing in and out of my mind from time to time, but I am trying to get it out as quick as it is going in because nothing has been achieved yet.
“It is important for myself and the players to try to not forget about the dream but try to park it up, as dreams only happen when you get the job done and there are six hard matches still to play.”
Liverpool take on West Ham this Sunday and Gerrard insisted that the club would have to approach this game the same way it has approached the others.
“Nothing changes, we don’t worry about Manchester City, Chelsea, Palace, Norwich or Newcastle – we worry about beating West Ham. We approach it how we’ve approached the last eight games.
“We have an unbelievable mentality, winning attitude, and we always know if we work hard for each other and do the ugly bits which players don’t like doing all the time, we know the nice stuff will come out.
“We have been playing at a pace which is difficult for opposition teams to cope with, but it all starts with sticking together. It is the manager’s way. Everyone has taken it on board and put it into practice.”
While the Reds had a shaky start last season under new manager Brendan Rodgers, after a successful winter transfer window, the club did improved remarkably to finish the season on a high. Gerrard said that the Anfield outfit has carried off that form to this season and built from that:
“I remember us finishing the last six months of last season very consistently and we took that into this year. We had a good pre-season and from day one the form has been consistent, but of late we’ve taken it to another level.
“The run we are on is superb and it is a credit to everyone in the squad.”
Liverpool currently are on top of the table and a have a two point lead over second placed Chelsea.
