Manchester United have set their sights on Sporting Lisbonai??i??s youngster William Carvalho and plan to make summer move for the player.
Several reports in European newspapers including Tiro Libre, O Jogo and The Guardian have claimed today that Red Devils are planning to make William their first summer signing.
It is also reported that United send scouts on transfer deadline day to watch the Sporting Lisbonai??i??s youngster. However, United will face competition from Real Madrid and Barcelona in the pursuit of Carvalho who won his first cap for his country against Sweden last November.
The young midfielder has impressed during his breakthrough season at the club and has drawn comparisons with the likes of Patrick Vieira for his all-action style at the heart of midfield. William is known for his versatility, comfortable operating in defence, just in front of the back four or even slightly further up in the midfield. Primarily, he plays as a defensive midfielder with a high work-rate and upper body strength. 21 year old youngster is real presence in midfield. Carvalho is equally adept at fitting into a passing game, having honed his game with Sporting. He made his debut as far back as 2011 but has had to be patient in waiting for his chance, taking in two separate loan spells – at Fatima and Cercle Brugge respectively – before cementing his place this season.
His contract expires in 2018 and is understood to contain a release clause in the region of A?37.5million, although United would hope to negotiate a considerably cheaper deal.
Manchester United Announce Pre-season USA Tour
Manchester United has today announced that its 2014 Tour will take place in the United States. The team will visit a number of destinations in the country as they look to prepare for the 2014/15 season.
The trip marks the first time the club will return to North America following tours in 2010 and 2011 and is rumoured to be part of the 2014 International Champions Cup.
Last season’s ICC involved eight teams – including the likes of Chelsea, Juventus, Real Madrid and LA Galaxy – facing selected opponents in America and Spain, with Madrid beating Jose Mourinho’s side in the final.
