Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that defender Glen Johnson will return to the Liverpool squad for Sunday’s match against Swansea City.
The England international has been on the sidelines since January 18, after being ruled out indefinitely, but is now back and would be in contention for Liverpool’s Sunday league match against Swansea City.
Rodgers spoke to the reporters in his pre-match conference:
“Glen has been back trainingAi??According to him, he has felt as good as he has done for a long time – which is great. He has looked very good in training and he’ll come into the squad”
Rodgers also spoke about Lucas Leiva and Mamadou Sakho and shared their fitness status:
“Lucas Leiva is recovering very well but not in the squad. Sakho is still probably a week or so away, but he’s back on the field now with the rehabilitation team and working well.
“Apart from that, the squad is pretty much the same at it has been.”
Left-back Jose Enrique has been on the sidelines for the club for almost the entirety of this season featuring in only eight of Liverpool’s 26 Premier League matches so far. Rodgers revealed that the Spaniard visited a specialist in the United States regarding his knee problem.

“We’re looking to try to put an end to his injuries this season. We have sent him out to get some specialist advice on that. But he’s nowhere near playing yet.”
Jose Enrique’s injury has meant that Liverpool have not played with their desired or strongest starting eleven in a long time and the visit to America probably means that the 28 year old is out for the remainder of the season. Liverpool have been playing Aly Cissokho as the left back, who has improved in the recent matches, after not having the best start to his Liverpool career, after arriving on loan from Valencia with high promise.

Young Jon Flanagan though, ably compensated Enrique’s loss by putting on very promising displays as a full back for Liverpool. With Johnson’s injury, Flanagan played as the right back for the Reds and did extremely well. However, with Johnson’s comeback, Flanagan would probably play on the left and replace Cissokho in that spot.
