Liverpool have received a major blow as long term target Xherdan Shaqiri looks like he is heading over to Wolfsburg.Ai??
The Reds were linked with the Swiss international all summer long and the player revealed a month back that Bayern Munich rejected adavances made for him. Shaqiri has been considered as the future of Bayern Munich and was bought from Basel in the first place as the long term replacement for Franck Ribery.
Shaqiri told Switzerlandai??i??s Blick newspaper, “I wanted a move in the summer, of course, but the club made their decision and Iai??i??ve just got to live with it.Ai??I just felt after the World Cup that it would be better for me to try something new. I thought about moving and I had lots of enquiries, but Bayern decided I had to stay ai??i?? and you canai??i??t do much about that as a player.Ai??Everybody knows I want to be playing more.Ai??Iai??i??ve got to speak with Bayern before anybody, and we will sit down again this winter. I just get the impression I would never be a regular starter, not even if I score in every game.ai???

The winger had apparently been told that he can leave in January.
It has been coming up ever since that Liverpool were still interested and would be making another bid which they hoped would now be successful seeing that the club and player both look keen for the move. But Sport Bild says that Wolfsburg are set to bid for him and have already begun talks over a possible move.
Under the good guidance of coach Dieter Hecking and Director of Sport Klaus Allofs, Wolfsburg are no longer set in their previous ways and are currently flying high in the Bundesliga. The likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Ricardo Rodriguez, Ivica Olic and Ivan Perisic are doing fantastically for the German side and sit in the second spot, behind Bayern Munich, and on course for next season’s Champions League. They would be more than able to pay theAi??A?16million asking fee for Shaqiri.
For the Swiss star, it would be a tricky decision. While Wolsburg offer the prospect of Champions League next season, something that doens’t look very likely at Merseyside in the nearest future, the likes of Ivan Perisic, de Bruyne, Olic (and other attackers being employed by Hecking) are doing fantastically and Shaqiri might not get enough game time– the main reason why he wants a move. In contrast, he can walk into the Liverpool side at the moment, and actually help them get back to their old ways. The prospect of England would definitely attract him as well.
However, it is not even certain that LiverpoolAi??willAi??table a bid this winter. It has been said that their prime and solo target for the transfer window is a striker. In the likes of Lazar Markovic, Raheem Sterling and Adam Lallana, Liverpool already have sufficient wingers/wide forwards. But obviously, Shaqiri would be a huge and welcome addition to the struggling Merseyside team.
