Liverpool are said to be in the pole position to sign German international and Borussia Dortmund attacker Marco Reus.
The player has been the hot subject of transfer rumors since the beginning of this yearai??i??s transfer window. The German international has been the prized asset of Borussia Dortmund but top European clubs like Barcelona, Manchester United, Liverpool, Bayern Munich have been linked with a move for him throughout the summer. Arsenal joined this group of suitors towards the end of the transfer window while Manchester City have also been linked with the player recently.
The Metro report today that Liverpool are leading the chase for his signature now that he has again shunned approaches made by his club to tie him down to a new contract.
Reus had rejected the offer of a new deal at Dortmund two months ago, but the German club have been holding talks with the player to try to get him to change his mind.Ai??However, these new approaches have so far failed to get the desired result and Reus looks certain to be leaving the club, withAi??the Daily Express confirmingAi??all talks are now over.
This is said to have alerted the Reds, who are ready to make a A?32m move for the 25-year-old.Reus is said to want to contract worth A?180,000 should he make the move to Anfield.
Dortmund are keen on keeping the talented attacker with them and ensure that he doesn’t get prized away in January. Especially since the German side is currently struggling in the league and are sitting in the fifteenth place with seven points from nine games.
“Nothing has changed about our intentions to continue our collaboration with Marco,” sporting director Michael Zorc said.
“But the current situation demands full focus from everybody at the club. Our biggest priority at the moment is to get out of this difficult situation.Everything else comes after that for now.”
The reports in the media claim that Liverpool are leading the race to sign the player and that Reus is not opposed to coming to Anfield so long as his contract demands are met. The Reds themselves have not got off to a flyer and the addition of Reus would prove to give them a huge boost. He could be just what Liverpool need after the departure of Luis Suarez.
