Manchester United legend Eric Cantona was arrested and cautioned for common assault.
It was hard to keep Eric Cantona out of the headlines during his playing career, either for his brilliance on the field or for his antics off it. Cantona, who spent six seasons at Old Trafford, won four league titles with Manchester United and is widely considered among the best foreigners to have graced the English shores.
Cantona, who became an actor after retiring from the game, was today arrested by the Metropolitan Police from North London for assaulting a man. The victim didnai??i??t require medical assistance after he was reportedly assaulted by Cantona following a lunchtime altercation. The Frenchman was detained and cautioned according to a statement released by the Metropolitan Police.
“Police were called to Regents Park Road, NW1, at 12.55pm on Wednesday March 12, following reports of an assault.
“Officers from Camden Borough attended and a man in his mid-40s was arrested on suspicion of common assault.
“He was taken into custody and subsequently cautioned for common assault.
“The victim, a man, did not require medical assistance at the scene.”- Read the official statement.
This is of course not the first instance when such charges were brought up against Eric Cantona. The 47-year-old had earlier faced disciplinary actions after he launched a now in famous ai???Kung-fuai??? style kick on Crystal Palace fan Matthew Simmons, who has reportedly racially abused Cantona during the game. He faced suspension and a big fine from both the FA and his club following that incident, and he later served community service after the court overturned the initial decision of two-weeks of prison.
