Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini is impressed with Alexis Sanchezai??i??s performances for the club of late and believes the former Barcelona player is as good as club legend Thiery Henry.
Sanchez has instantly become a hit with Arsenal fans delivering impressive performances since his arrival from Barcelona for around A?30 million. The Chilean international has scored 8 goals in 15 appearances so far this season for the Gunners. The 25-year old scored both goals in Arsenalai??i??s 2-0 win over Sunderland on Saturday.
Sanchezai??i??s teammate Flamini believes the winger is on the same level as former club icon Thiery Henry as well as Robin Van Persie.
“From what we have seen so far of him, he is right up there [with Henry and Van Persie],” Flamini told reporters.Ai??”He is proving it in every game he plays, not just with his goals but the way he works for the team.
“[Alexis] is a breath of fresh air to play with. He gives so much for the team and not just in an attacking sense. I didn’t realise he works so hard off the ball. Not just creating space for others but helping out defensively. He is a top player and has already made a big difference.
“Normally a player with his talent and goals would be satisfied with that but he gives more with his work-rate. When you see someone like him working so hard, it sets an example for all of us to follow.”
Henry, in his time under Arsene Wenger, had scored 228 goals for the club and became the clubai??i??s top scorer in the 2005-06 season. The Frenchman was an integral part of the Arsenal squad that went the entire 2003-04 season unbeaten. Whether Sanchez will be able to replicate Henryai??i??s contribution to the Arsenal shirt is a debatable topic.
On the other hand, reports of another Barcelona player, Pedro joining Arsenal in January are surfacing. It is believed that the winger is not happy at Barcelona and has submitted a request to be transferred in the next window. The Spaniard can join former teammate Sanchez if Arsene Wenger agrees to shell out A?25 million to acquire his services.
It is also believed that Arsenal will also try to sign Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira who is playing out the last year of his contract at the Bernabeu. Arsenal could make a move for Khedira in January or agree a deal to sign him for free at the end of the season.
