England manager Roy Hodgson is confident about his sideai??i??s firepower despite failing to score against 10 men Honduras ahead of the World Cup.
England failed to win their last two matches as a 2-2 draw against Ecuador was followed by a goalless draw against Honduras. The Three Lions missed a host of good chances, but failed to convert any of them against an opponent who were reduced to 10 men. Roy Hodgsonai??i??s men will open their World Cup campaign against 2006 Champions Italy, and their performance against Honduras has given rise to scepticism about how the strike force will fare against a much stronger defence.
But the England manager is confident about his teamai??i??s firepower and was quick to remind how his side scored five goals against Peru and Ecuador. The former Liverpool manager also pointed out the presence of Daniel Sturridge, Wayne Rooney and Rickie Lambert in their ranks and expressed his confidence about his teamai??i??s chances in the tournament.
“We didn’t score against Honduras but we scored five goals in the games against Peru and Ecuador, so I think it would be very harsh to start casting aspersions.
“Daniel Sturridge is an absolute out-and-out goalscorer and we think Rickie Lambert is too.

There has been a lot of speculations about the final team composition that Hodgson will prefer during the World Cup. Sturridge will lead the line, while Danny Welbeck and Rooney are expected to feature in attack as well. But there are still doubts about where Rooney will feature in the attack ai??i?? behind Sturridge or on the right. Ross Barkley and Raheem Sterling are other contenders for the role of the play-maker, especially with Rooney prospering in a wide role against Ecuador.
Roy Hodgson has hinted that Sterling, who was suspended against Honduras, could be used in a central role in the World Cup and has expressed his faith in the ability of the Liverpool youngster.
“There is the boy we haven’t seen yet, Raheem Sterling.
“There is a good chance he would have played in that position (behind Sturridge against Honduras) had he not been sent off against Ecuador.
“It is not purely Barkley or Rooney, we have got Danny Welbeck who can do it and we have got Sterling.
