Having spent A?151.3 million this summer to refurbish the squad, Manchester United chief executive, Ed Woodward, has targeted a minimum finish of 3rd place in the English Premier League this season.
Manchester United went through a painful transitional phase under David Moyes last season and Ed Woodward himself was criticised for failing to land the desired players, leaving Moyes empty-handed in his bid to take over from Sir Alex Ferguson. However the Chief Executive has done a brilliant job this summer and has signed the likes of Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao, Luke Shaw, Blind,Marcos Rojo and Ander Herrera in order to help Louis Van Gaal return the club to its winning ways.
This extravaganza however came at a cost and the United executive Woodward has made it clear that the club must finish 3rd in the Premier League and qualify for Champions League next summer.
The Manchester United chief executive further revealed that the club will not shy away from spending more money in the January transfer window and will assist the manager in every way possible.
“We don’t intend to significantly increase capital expenditure [by buying players] in January. We will continue to monitor in association with Louis his view of the squad and which areas we want to strengthen and which areas we want to sell.ai???
“I wouldn’t have expectations for January but if there is a willingness from the manager, we will engage with him and if there is an opportunity, we will try and take that as we did last year with Juan Mata.”
