PSG manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that he has asked to leave the French club, and joining Real Madrid remains a huge possibility.
PSG have already confirmed that Real Madrid are interested in signing Carlo Ancelotti as the replacement for Jose Mourinho, who is set to leave the Spanish club after a disappointing season. But PSG President Nasser al Khelaifi said that they have stated to Real Madrid that Ancelotti still has a contract at the club and that they intend to keep him.
PSG have won the Ligue 1 this season and had quite a good run in the Champions League (where many would consider them to be knocked out despite a brilliant performance against Barcelona). The Italian was sceptical about his future though, and didnai??i??t rule out the possibility of leaving the French club. But now it has been officially confirmed that the 53-year-old has expressed his desire to leave the club to the board and that they are currently in discussion.
“Carlo has asked to go to Madrid, but we want him to stay. No decision has been taken. We’ve listened to Carlo. We have to look at things a bit. The priority is for him to stay. We’ve never contacted other coaches.” ai??i?? Leonardo was quoted in press.
The former Chelsea and AC Milan manager has said that he is waiting for the club to decide upon his future. He maintains that he still has a very good relationship with everyone at the club, although Real Madrid remains a possibility.
“We had a meeting with the president and Leonardo, I asked, because I have a contract, to leave the club. We have to wait for the response of the club, which is going to decide its future and mine.
“Madrid is a possibility, but I have a year on my contract. It’s the club which will decide. We have to decide together because my decision is to quit the club. It’s not easy because I have a very good relationship with everyone. It’s not the moment to explain why I want to leave the club and perhaps I’ll never explain it.” ai??i?? Carlo Ancelotti told the press.
But PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifa has reiterated his desire to retain Ancelotti.
“Yes, we had discussions, he asked to depart for Real Madrid. I said it is not possible because he has a contract for one year more, so that is our decision.
“It is his problem, it is not our problem. We have offered him another year more on his contract as well as the one he has. When you have a contract, everyone is normally obliged to honour that.” ai??i?? The PSG President said.
The above statement of-course means that Real Madrid might have to buy-out his contract if they wish to install Carlo Ancelotti as the manager at the Spanish club. Real Madrid might also have to look at other alternatives as Jose Mourinhoai??i??s replacement. The managerial merry go round is about to start in European football.
