Manchester United stumble to their third defeat of the season against West Brom at Old Trafford as Morgan Amalfitano shines for the away side.
Manchester United currently lie in the bottom half of the table at 12th and could possibly slip further down depending on other results. This has been Unitedai??i??s worst start to a league campaign since 1989 and David Moyes will come under a lot of pressure now.
The game got off to a slow start with both teams taking their time to settle in, but in the second half the game was brought to life. West Brom kept their defensive shape and United failed to create too many clear openings. But in the 54th minute of the game West Brom surprisingly took the lead from a wonderful individual goal from Morgan Amalfitano. The Frenchman broke through the midfield down the right wing and went past Ferdinand like the Englishman wasnai??i??t even present on the pitch. He kept his calm when De Gea came off the line and chipped the Spaniard for a memorable goal.
West Brom dropped back a bit after taking the lead, defending with ten men behind the ball. This allowed United to push up the pitch. The home side replied immediately with an equalizer as Wayne Rooney scored once again from a free kick. Bu that was to be the only high point for them in the game as the parity did not last beyond ten more minutes. A lot of away sides would prefer defending at Old Trafford in these situations, but credit to West Brom who pushed forward with confidence.
It was Ai??in the 67th minute, the Baggies scored a wonderful team goal where new signing Sessegnon played in a good ball towards Amalfitano, who wonderfully flicked it towards Berahino at the edge of the box. The youngster, who has shown a lot of promise in this game, scored with an impressive low strike. That goal turned out to be the winner as United failed to score another equalizer. In the end, it was a memorable and historic win for West Brom and it was certainly their best performance of the season.
David Moyes criticized his defenders after the loss but the former Everton boss was also hopeful that his side can bounce back immediately from this defeat.
