Pape Matar Sarr closing in on joining Galatasaray

Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray are on the verge of securing the services of Tottenham midfield star Pape Matar Sarr.

Galatasaray are closing in on signing Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr, with the clubs in active negotiations after the Turkish side raised their bid to €20 million.

According to a report from Fanatik, the North London club are willing to sanction his departure but are holding firm at a €25 million valuation.

Meanwhile, Aksam reports that Galatasaray have already reached an agreement with Sarr over personal terms and are now focused on finding common ground with Tottenham on price.

The 23-year-old midfielder has reportedly sent a message of his own regarding the potential move, posting a lion emoji on social media amid growing speculation over his future.

Galatasaray have already seen a reported €18 million offer rejected by Spurs, but the Turkish champions have not given up on the midfielder. Aksam’s report states that their proposal has now been increased to €20 million as they attempt to convince the London club to sanction the transfer.

Why Tottenham are ready to sell?

While there is a gap in valuation, Tottenham’s willingness to sell should boost Galatasaray’s hopes of completing a deal. The Super Lig outfit are pushing hard to strike a deal at a lower price. They are also pursuing Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr as they reshape their squad.

Sarr has been an important part of the Tottenham setup since 2022, but injuries and the arrival of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes this summer have raised serious question marks over his role in the team, with Archie Gray also ahead of him in the pecking order.

He made only 13 Premier League starts in 2025/26, although he remained involved in Tottenham’s Champions League campaign, starting seven matches. He finished the season with two goals and four assists. Things are unlikely to improve this time around; as a result, Spurs are ready to cash in on him.

The Turkish giants are ready to make room for Sarr

Galatasaray, meanwhile, are working on their squad structure to make room for another foreign player. The club have received serious offers for Mario Lemina, Lucas Torreira and Leroy Sane, with the futures of the first two particularly uncertain.

A decision on those players is expected to be influenced by head coach Okan Buruk. If Galatasaray sign Sarr, they may accept offers for Lemina or Torreira to create room for the midfielder.
