Galatasaray rival Barcelona in Xavi Simons chase

Galatasaray will reportedly compete with Barcelona in the race to sign 23-year-old Dutch playmaker Xavi Simons from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Turkish outlet Fotospor, Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Xavi Simons is the subject of interest from Galatasaray. The 2024/25 Turkish Super Lig winners are eager to reinforce their offensive unit by signing a versatile playmaker ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The Dutchman is also a target for Barcelona, with the Blaugrana keen on bringing him back to Spotify Camp Nou after seven years. Meanwhile, Galatasaray will attempt to sign Simons on loan in the upcoming transfer window, with the situation likely to appeal to Tottenham if they get relegated from the Premier League.

How has Xavi Simons fared at Tottenham?

Xavi Simons has not been at his best since joining Tottenham Hotspur from RB Leipzig in a deal worth €65 million last summer. The 23-year-old became a household name after leaving Paris Saint-Germain, excelling in his stints with PSV Eindhoven and RB Leipzig. However, he has blown hot and cold in the 2025/26 season.

The Dutch playmaker has managed only six goals and seven assists in 42 appearances across all competitions, with contributions coming for RB Leipzig before he joined Tottenham. However, the Netherlands international remains a hot property in the market, with Galatasaray and Barcelona among the prospective suitors vying for his signature this year.

A man in demand

Barcelona’s interest in Xavi Simons is understandable. While Fermin Lopez and Dani Olmo have been excellent for the Blaugrana, recent reports have claimed that the Catalan outfit may cash in on the latter this summer. So, Barcelona must scour the market for a replacement, with Simons emerging as a viable target.

As for Galatasaray, Gabriel Sara’s long-term future is uncertain amid his links with Premier League clubs. Additionally, Ilkay Gundogan is in the twilight of his career, forcing Cimbom to consider signing a playmaker this summer. Simons is thus an option worth considering for Galatasaray.

Tottenham may struggle to keep the 23-year-old Dutchman if they cannot stave off relegation in the coming weeks. So, a move away from the North London club may be on the cards for the Netherlands international amid his emerging links with Galatasaray and Barcelona.
