Manchester City revive Ibrahim Maza interest, deal difficult

Manchester City will reportedly look to sign 20-year-old Algerian international Ibrahim Maza from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen in the summer transfer window.

A report by Algerian outlet Dzair Sports Officiel has revealed that 20-year-old Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Ibrahim Maza is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Citizens are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder in the coming months.

However, a summer move will be a tall order, as the report has revealed that Bayer Leverkusen “reject the offer” without mentioning how much Manchester City proposed. Additionally, the Bundesliga giants insist that the Berlin-born playmaker is “not for sale at any price” and have valued him at €70 million.

Who is Ibrahim Maza?

Ibrahim Maza has established himself as one of the best young prospects in the Bundesliga since joining Bayer Leverkusen from Hertha BSC last summer. Born in Berlin, the 20-year-old began his youth career at Reinickendorfer Fuchse but spent most of his formative years with Hertha BSC and graduated from the German club’s academy.

The Algerian international has been excellent thus far in the 2025/26 season, contributing to 11 goals in 38 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net five times and providing six assists. Meanwhile, Maza’s progress has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, with Manchester City among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Ibrahim Maza has been on Manchester City’s wishlist for a long time, and they considered signing him last summer before Bayer Leverkusen won the battle for his signature. However, the continued interest is perplexing, as they secured Rayan Cherki’s services in the same transfer window.

With Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders, and Phil Foden being options for the no. 10 berth, it is unclear how Maza will fit into the scheme of things. Nevertheless, the German-born playmaker is a target for Manchester City, with the Citizens already failing with an offer to sign him from Bayer Leverkusen.

However, with the Bundesliga top-four hopefuls having no interest in selling the 20-year-old Algerian international, Manchester City must look elsewhere for a playmaker. That said, they should focus on reinforcing other areas of their squad, as they need a right-back, a holding midfielder, and a wide attacker.
