According to reports by 24 Sata and Het Belang van Limburg, as relayed by Sport Witness, Chelsea and Manchester City are interested in Konstantinos Karetsas. The two Premier League giants are keen on reinforcing their offensive units by signing a versatile attacker in the summer transfer window. So, the 18-year-old KRC Genk wonderkid has emerged as a target for them.
The latest reports have revealed that Chelsea and Manchester City have “put themselves in the mix” by “making calls” to discuss a possible move with his entourage. However, the Premier League clubs are not alone in the battle for his signature, as Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are also vying for his services.
Who is Konstantinos Karetsas?
Konstantinos Karetsas is the latest promising Greek prospect to rise in prominence. Born in Genk, the teenage sensation has spent his formative years thus far in Belgium, passing through the academies at As VV and RSC Anderlecht before graduating from the youth division at KRC Genk. However, he has picked Greece as his national side.
The 18-year-old broke into the first-team squad at KRC Genk in the second half of the 2023/24 season, and he has been a regular for 18 months. Karetsas has been exceptional this term, scoring three goals and providing 16 assists in 36 appearances across all competitions. He has also made his senior bow for Greece, and his exploits have piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Chelsea and Manchester City.
High in demand
Chelsea’s interest in Konstantinos Karetsas is somewhat perplexing. Liam Rosenior has a stacked offensive unit, with Cole Palmer being the first-choice no. 10. However, the Blues remain in the market for a versatile attacker as they want more productivity from their attackers. So, Karetsas has emerged as a target for Chelsea.
As for Manchester City, Pep Guardiola wants more firepower in the final third amid uncertainties surrounding Bernardo Silva’s long-term future. So, Karetsas has emerged as a viable target, as he can be a like-for-like replacement for the Portuguese international.
Other Premier League giants have also shown interest in the 18-year-old Greek wonderkid, while Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are also keen on signing the youngster. However, Chelsea and Manchester City have initiated the move by “making calls” to his entourage to discuss a possible deal. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the youngster.
