Liverpool ready to hijack Barcelona move for Ederson

Liverpool will reportedly aim to beat Barcelona in the race to sign 26-year-old Brazilian international Ederson from Serie A club Atalanta in the coming months.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Ederson is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a holding midfielder next year. So, the 26-year-old Atalanta mainstay has emerged as a target for the Merseyside outfit.

Apart from Liverpool, Barcelona will also chase the South American midfielder’s signature in the coming months. However, the Premier League champions are ready to hijack the Catalan club’s move for the Atalanta star, and they have formulated a package worth €30-40 million to secure his services.

How has Ederson fared in Serie A?

Ederson has established himself as one of the most dependable midfielders in Serie A since joining Atalanta from Salernitana in July 2022. The 26-year-old did not take long to make his mark, and he has been a mainstay in the middle of the park for La Dea. Additionally, the player’s exploits for the Serie A club have helped him break into his national squad.

The Brazilian international has made over 150 appearances thus far for Atalanta while chipping in with 14 goals and five assists. Meanwhile, the player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several European bigwigs. Barcelona and Liverpool are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

A man in demand

Ederson has been on Liverpool’s radar for a long time. The continued interest is understandable, as Wataru Endo is on the wrong side of 30 and faces an uncertain future at Anfield. Additionally, Arne Slot wants more options in the middle of the park, including a solid defensive midfielder. So, the Atalanta mainstay has emerged as a viable target for Liverpool.

As for Barcelona, the reigning La Liga champions also hold a long-standing interest in the 26-year-old. The Catalan giants remain in the market for a holding midfielder, as they may cash in on a homegrown midfielder to balance their books and fund new signings next summer. So, the Atalanta midfielder is an option worth considering for Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will aim to beat Barcelona to the Brazilian midfielder’s signature, as they are ready to pay €30-40 million to secure his services. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Ederson amid his links with European bigwigs.
