Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing 20-year-old English attacking sensation Jamie Gittens from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Jamie Gittens is the subject of interest from Chelsea. Arsenal and Liverpool are also keen on signing the Borussia Dortmund attacking sensation in the summer transfer window. However, the two Premier League clubs are behind the West London outfit, with the Bundesliga giants demanding £70 million to part ways with him.
Jamie Gittens and his progress
Jamie Gittens has seen his stock soar since establishing a foothold in the first-team squad at Borussia Dortmund. The Englishman had to bide his time before enjoying his breakthrough at Signal Iduna Park, initially representing the Bundesliga club’s under-19 side after arriving from Manchester City in September 2020. Meanwhile, his exploits have compelled pundits to compare him to Joe Cole.
The 20-year-old has been one of the rare bright spots for Borussia Dortmund this season. Gittens has contributed to 17 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions, finding the back of the net 12 times and providing five assists. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, alerting Premier League bigwigs like Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool.
A man in demand
The English youth international has been on Arsenal’s radar for a long time. The Gunners have been over-dependent on Bukayo Saka in the final third, and Mikel Arteta wants more firepower in the summer transfer window. So, the Borussia Dortmund whizkid has emerged as a viable target for Arsenal.
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s interest in Jamie Gittens makes sense. The Reds are in a spot of bother over Mohamed Salah’s long-term future, while recent reports have linked Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Diogo Jota with moves away from Anfield. So, Liverpool must sign a productive attacker in the summer transfer window, with the Borussia Dortmund winger an option worth considering.
As for Chelsea, Jadon Sancho might not be at Stamford Bridge beyond the summer transfer window. In addition, Mykhailo Mudryk’s long-term future is uncertain after recently failing a drug test. So, Chelsea should invest in a top-class wide attacker, with Gittens a viable target. The Blues are in the pole position to land the 20-year-old Englishman.
Graeme Bailey has suggested that the Blues are “at the front of the queue” to land Gittens. Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund will demand around £70 million to part ways with the English attacking sensation, a value that should suit Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool.
