Chelsea set to send Mathis Amougou on loan to RC Strasbourg

Chelsea are set to send January signing Mathis Amougou to Strasbourg as they will accommodate incoming midfielder Dario Essugo in their first-team plans.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the immediate future of Chelsea’s January signing Mathis Amougou lies away from Stamford Bridge. The 19-year-old midfield prospect is set to be loaned out to sister club Strasbourg to help the young star gain valuable first-team experience, which was also the plan when they signed him in the winter market.

Mathis Amougou arrived at Chelsea very late in the January window from St Ettiene, with the midfielder seen as a top prospect for the future. He might not have been their priority midfield target for the age, given the Blues were keen on Dario Essugo ahead of the winter market deadline day.

With Essugo then having doubts about the idea of joining Chelsea, especially with the prospect of joining Strasbourg on loan looming large around that time, the Blues chose to bring Amougou instead. The club had plans to send Amougou to Strasbourg on loan, but may not have had the time that late in the window then.

In the last few days, Chelsea have made some big signings from Sporting CP. First, it was teenage sensation Geovany Quenda, while Essugo has also been signed. The latter will sign a seven-year deal at Stamford Bridge, as the Blues have seemingly resolved a key demand from the player to stay with the first team if he was to sign.

Fabrizio Romano clearly stated that Essugo was to be a part of the first-team squad next season as a deputy to Moises Caicedo. With that out of the way and the Sporting CP midfielder set to arrive in the summer, Chelsea are now making plans to send Amougou to Strasbourg as was the plan when he signed for the club.

Chelsea to loan Mathis Amougou

The main idea here with the decision to loan out the 19-year-old midfield prospect to sister club Strasbourg would be to allow him regular game time. While he was a regular for St Ettiene before joining Chelsea, this might be an exercise to improve the player’s value in the French market, as there’s a distinct possibility the Blues could consider a quick-fire sale of the midfielder in a year or so.

Chelsea have embarked on this transfer strategy of signing some of the best young profiles from all around and then making a decent profit after a period of development. Since the arrival of the new owners, the Blues have spent considerably on young talents only for those players to barely feature in Chelsea’s first team since and have either left the club or have continued their journey on a loan deal elsewhere.
