Crystal Plaace in transfer tussle to sign Mahamadou Doumbia

Crystal Palace will compete with Sevilla, Stade Brestois, and others to sign 20-year-old Malian midfielder Mahamadou Doumbia from Royal Antwerp this summer.

According to a report by Africa Foot, Mahamadou Doumbia is the subject of interest from Crystal Palace. Sevilla and Stade Brestois 29 are also keen on signing the Royal Antwerp midfielder in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the Belgian club will demand around €10-15 million to part ways with the highly-rated African midfielder.

Who is Mahamadou Doumbia?

Mahamadou Doumbia is the latest success story at Royal Antwerp. A native of Bamako, the Malian midfielder spent most of his formative years in his homeland but graduated from the youth division at Danish club Nordsjaelland. However, he has risen in prominence since moving to Belgium.

Royal Antwerp signed Doumbia in September 2023, and he broke into the first-team squad midway through the 2023/24 season. The youngster has taken over from Arthur Vermeeren after the highly-rated Belgian midfielder joined Atletico Madrid from Royal Antwerp last year. Meanwhile, the 20-year-old has gone from strength to strength at the Bosuilstadion.

The African midfield prospect has turned out nearly 50 times thus far for Royal Antwerp while chipping in with six goals. Meanwhile, Doumbia’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Crystal Palace will be one of the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

London calling?

Crystal Palace’s interest in Mahamadou Doumbia is understandable. The Eagles are scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding Will Hughes’s long-term future. In addition, Adam Wharton is a target for several high-profile clubs across Europe.

So, Crystal Palace should sign a promising midfielder in the summer transfer window, with several candidates, including Hayden Hackney, emerging as targets. However, Doumbia is also an option worth considering. The 20-year-old Malian midfielder will not cost a bomb, with Royal Antwerp demanding around €10-15 million to part ways with him.

The South London outfit should have the funds to afford a deal worth around €10-15 million to sign the African midfield prospect. However, Crystal Palace will face stiff competition from Sevilla and Stade Brestois 29, among others.
