West Ham United will reportedly prioritise signing 25-year-old LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Sacha Tavolieri on Sky Sport Switzerland, Jonathan David is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are keen on signing a centre-forward in the summer transfer window and have identified the LOSC Lille striker as their priority target. However, the East London club will face stiff competition from Barcelona for the Canadian international’s signature.
The rise and rise of Jonathan David
Jonathan David has gone from strength to strength since joining LOSC Lille from KAA Gent in August 2020. The Brooklyn-born striker has been a pivotal figure for the Ligue 1 outfit in the last four and a half years, and he has enjoyed another solid campaign.
The 25-year-old has contributed to 30 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions in the 2024/25 season, finding the back of the net 21 times and providing nine assists. However, David’s future at LOSC Lille is non-existent after entering the final six months of his contract with the Ligue 1 club.
While Les Dogues wanted to tie the Canadian international to a new long-term contract, he wants to embark on a new adventure in the summer transfer window. The situation has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe, with Barcelona and West Ham United among the prospective suitors for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
Where next?
Barcelona’s interest in Jonathan David is understandable. The Catalan giants are keen on signing a striker in the summer transfer window, considering Robert Lewandowski is in the twilight of his illustrious career. So, the LOSC Lille centre-forward is a viable target for Barcelona, with the Blaugrana advancing talks with his entourage.
As for West Ham United, Graham Potter has pushed the East London club to pursue the Lille striker over a Bosman move in the summer transfer window. The Hammers have signed two centre-forwards in the last two transfer windows. However, Niclas Fullkrug has struggled to make his mark since arriving from Borussia Dortmund, while Evan Ferguson will likely return to Brighton & Hove Albion after the 2024/25 season ends.
David is West Ham United’s priority target heading into the summer transfer window. However, with Barcelona also in the equation, convincing the 25-year-old Canadian international to move to the London Stadium might be a tall order.
