Joao Felix increasingly unlikely to seal permanent AC Milan move

Joao Felix is increasingly unlikely to seal a permanent move to Serie A club AC Milan in the summer transfer window after failing to make a mark in his loan stint thus far.

According to a report by Corriere dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Joao Felix has blown hot and cold since joining AC Milan on loan from Chelsea for the remainder of the 2024/25 season. However, the Portuguese international has gone from “acclaimed to blamed”, and a permanent deal is increasingly unlikely.

Joao Felix and his stuttering career

Joao Felix has struggled to fulfil his tremendous potential despite representing some of the biggest clubs in the world in the last half a dozen years. He rose in prominence at his boyhood club, SL Benfica, before sealing a big-money move to Atletico Madrid in July 2019.

While the 25-year-old showed flashes of brilliance at the Spanish club, he could not stamp his authority before falling out with Diego Simeone. A loan spell with Barcelona showed some promise, but he completed a permanent move worth £45 million to Chelsea last summer. However, Felix blew hot and cold in the first half of the 2024/25 season.

While the Portuguese international chipped in with seven goals and two assists in 20 outings in all competitions for Chelsea, he struggled for regular game time. So, it was hardly surprising the Blues were ready to loan him out in the winter transfer window before AC Milan came calling.

What next?

Recent reports have claimed that Joao Felix is ready to seal a permanent move to AC Milan in the summer transfer window. The Chelsea loanee is ideologically and theoretically the perfect fit in Sergio Conceicao’s system at San Siro, and he should have been the ideal foil to Christian Pulisic, Santiago Gimenez, and Rafael Leao.

However, the 25-year-old Portuguese international has barely made his mark thus far for AC Milan, scoring only one goal in seven outings thus far. So, the player has gone from “acclaimed to blamed”, with fans and pundits alike souring on him.

A permanent move to AC Milan is thus increasingly unlikely as we approach the summer transfer window. Recent reports have suggested that the Serie A giants have been open to sealing a summer deal. However, that might not happen if Felix’s struggles continue.
