Chelsea face Bayern Munich battle for Bart Verbruggen

Bayern Munich will reportedly compete with Chelsea to sign 22-year-old Dutch goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by the Daily Mirror, Bart Verbruggen is the subject of interest from Bayern Munich. The Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper is also a target for Chelsea heading into the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the Premier League club will demand around £50 million to part ways with the Dutch shot-stopper.

Bart Verbruggen and his rise in the Premier League

Bart Verbruggen has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League since joining Brighton & Hove Albion from RSC Anderlecht in July 2023. While the Dutchman competed with Jason Steele for a spot between the sticks in his debut season, he has become the undisputed first-choice shot-stopper in the ongoing campaign.

Despite Brighton’s porous defensive showings, Verbruggen has been a rare bright spot, although he has conceded 73 goals thus far. The 22-year-old goalkeeper has turned out over 50 times thus far for the Premier League club while keeping only 14 clean sheets.

Meanwhile, Verbruggen’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Chelsea and Bayern Munich will be among the prospective suitors vying for the signature of the Dutch goalkeeper heading into the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Brighton will demand around £50 million to part ways with the youngster.

A big summer move beckons?

Chelsea’s interest in Bart Verbruggen makes sense. The Blues are scouring the market for a shot-stopper heading into the summer transfer window amid Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen’s struggles between the sticks. So, the Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper has emerged as a viable target for Chelsea.

As for Bayern Munich, Manuel Neuer is still going strong despite being 38. However, the veteran goalkeeper’s advancing age means the Bavarian giants need a successor to the Germa stopper. So, Verbruggen is an option worth considering for Bayern Munich. Meanwhile, Die Roten should have the funds to afford a deal worth £50 million for the 22-year-old Dutchman.

Chelsea should also have no qualms about coughing up £50 million to secure Verbruggen’s services in the summer transfer window. However, the Blues must offload a few goalkeepers before signing the Dutch international.
