Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool sounded out for Frenkie de Jong move

Intermediaries have reportedly contacted Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool regarding a possible summer move for 27-year-old Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Frenkie de Jong faces an uncertain future at FC Barcelona heading into the summer transfer window. The situation has compelled intermediaries to jump into action and contact Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and other Premier League bigwigs over a possible move for the Dutch midfielder.

Frenkie de Jong and a rollercoaster ride at FC Barcelona

Frenkie de Jong has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Barcelona from Ajax in a deal worth around £65 million in July 2019. While the Dutchman has been a dependable performer for the Blaugrana, he has dropped in stature in the last 18 months, with fitness issues stifling his progress during that period.

The 27-year-old has been in and out of the starting lineup this season, managing only 1,094 minutes of game time across 24 appearances in all competitions while chipping in with two goals and one assist. However, de Jong faces an uncertain future at FC Barcelona, and the situation has compelled intermediaries to contact Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool over a possible summer move.

Premier League adventure beckons?

Arsenal can do with a progressor like de Jong, considering his qualities make him the ideal foil for Declan Rice and Mikel Merino. So, the North London club should respond favourably to intermediaries contacting them over a possible move for the Barcelona midfielder. With Thomas Partey and Jorginho in the final six months of their Arsenal contracts, the Gunners need new midfielders.

Meanwhile, Frenkie de Jong is a long-term target for Chelsea. So, with Carney Chukwuemeka, Andrey Santos, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall facing an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge, the Blues need a new midfielder, bringing the Dutch international into the picture over a possible move to Chelsea.

As for Liverpool, de Jong has been a target for the Merseyside outfit in recent weeks. The Reds are scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window as Arne Slot demands more firepower from the middle of the park. So, the Barcelona midfielder is an option worth considering for Liverpool.

Barcelona will unlikely recoup anything close to £65 million if the 27-year-old Dutchman departs from the Catalan club in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, intermediaries have also sounded out Manchester City and Manchester United. So, it will not be surprising to see the Dutch midfielder moving to the Premier League in the coming months.
