Chelsea edge closer to landing Dario Essugo

Chelsea are eager to complete a move for promising Portuguese midfielder Dario Essugo, but they still need to iron out a key issue with the Sporting CP star.

According to The Sun, Chelsea are close to making headway in the race for Dario Essugo and remain eager to wrap up a deal as early as possible. The 19-year-old Portuguese sensation has been on the Blues’ radar for some time now, but there is a key issue that needs ironing out before they can convince the midfielder to make the switch to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea is once again in the hunt for young talents who could form part of their future squads. However, the drawback to that plan has been their immediate plans with talents they acquire from overseas markets, like Portugal or South America, as a number of them have not found the ground to make the grade into the first team and have either been sold or continue to spend time on loan elsewhere.

In recent windows, some of their targets have expressed their unhappiness at moving out on loan and demand an immediate inclusion in the first team. Chelsea are eyeing a summer move for 19-year-old Portuguese sensation Dario Essugo, who has requested an inclusion in the first team rather than being loaned out to another club, specifically Strasbourg.

Recent Bournemouth acquisition Eli Junior Kroupi reported a rejection of an approach from Chelsea. At the same time, defender Aaron Anselmino also showed no interest in moving to sister club RC Strasbourg on loan this January. That might have been the case with deadline-day signing Mathis Amougou, whom Chelsea wanted to loan to the French club.

This is a key issue for Chelsea to iron out before signing Essugo, as the Blues are keen to beat the competition for the Sporting CP midfielder. The 19-year-old Portuguese sensation has been on loan with La Liga club Las Palmas, where he has become a key member. The London outfit are willing to agree an early deal as they are wary of rivals making an offer for the promising midfield talent.

Will Chelsea sign Dario Essugo?

For now, keeping him in the first-team squad seems to be Chelsea’s only issue in their efforts to sign Essugo. However, the problem could have a telling effect on their chances, as Enzo Maresca might have to find space in the first team and may have to clear out another midfielder from the group.

Chelsea are very close to cracking an agreement with Sporting CP for the midfielder for much less than his reported release clause. However, they will have to find a solution for the midfielder’s issue, although they are confident of bringing the midfield talent to Stamford Bridge next summer.
