Manchester United ponder summer move for Paulo Dybala

Manchester United might look to sign 31-year-old Argentine international Paulo Dybala from AS Roma in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Paulo Dybala is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a versatile attacker heading into the summer transfer window. So, the AS Roma playmaker has emerged as a target, although the links are surprising, considering the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner’s age profile and career stage.

Paulo Dybala and his career so far

Paulo Dybala has been one of the best players in Serie A for much of his stint in the Italian top flight. The Laguna Larga native has been in Italy since July 2012, joining Palermo from Instituto ACC. However, the South American forward’s stock soared during his spell with Juventus, with the veteran playmaker spending seven fruitful seasons with the Bianconeri.

The 31-year-old has been with AS Roma since July 2022, arriving at Stadio Olimpico in a Bosman move after his contract with Juventus ran out. Since then, Dybala has enjoyed a solid spell thus far with the Giallorossi but has not been at his best in the 2024/25 season.

The Argentine international has been in and out of the starting lineup this term, managing 1,576 minutes of game time across 27 appearances in all competitions while chipping in with five goals and three assists. However, the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner remains highly sought-after in the market, with Manchester United among his prospective suitors heading into the winter transfer window.

Premier League adventure beckons?

Manchester United’s interest in Paulo Dybala is surprising yet understandable. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a versatile attacker heading into the summer transfer window. Marcus Rashford and Antony left Manchester United on loan in the winter transfer window, and the duo will likely complete permanent departures this summer.

So, several candidates, including Christopher Nkunku, were on Manchester United’s radar for the winter transfer window before a deal failed to see the light of day. Dybala has now emerged as a target for the summer. However, while the Argentine international will be a perfect fit in Ruben Amorim’s system, his age profile betrays Manchester United’s transfer plan under INEOS’ stewardship.

Nevertheless, the 31-year-old AS Roma playmaker will bring a winning mentality to Old Trafford, and he might become a short-term solution for Manchester United. It will be interesting to see if the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner arrives in the Premier League in the summer transfer window.
