Aston Villa have reportedly secured a way to convince Chelsea to loan them Axel Disasi following a collapse of the Tottenham story.
According to Matt Law, Aston Villa have secured an agreement to take Axel Disasi on loan for the remainder of the season. There have been too many ups and downs in the race for the 26-year-old Chelsea ace on the final day of the window, as Unai Emery’s side emerged victorious after the Tottenham deal collapsed.
Axel Disasi is the biggest story of the transfer deadline day, following a topsy-turvy report on the defender’s immediate future. To set the tone right, Chelsea was open to letting him leave on loan, and for a few days now, he had concrete links with Aston Villa.
Disasi had agreed on personal terms with Aston Villa, and a move for the 26-year-old Chelsea ace looked imminent. However, in the last few days, the Blues have had a change of heart over allowing the French defender to join the Birmingham side, as they became wary of strengthening a direct top-four rival in the process.
They held a similar stance on Joao Felix as Aston Villa, which has since seen Chelsea agree terms with AC Milan for the Portuguese playmaker. As for Disasi, he wanted to push for a move to Villa, although Tottenham’s late entry in the chase gave the defender a new option. Spurs arrived this late following the news on Radu Dragusin, who had torn his ACL and will be out for the remainder of the campaign.
Tottenham did sign Kevin Danso from RC Lens and earmarked Disasi as another addition to their list. Spurs did cool their interest earlier in the day as reports of Aston Villa returning to the discussion table emerged, as Emery’s team looked like Disasi’s preferred choice.
Aston Villa secures Axel Disasi loan agreement
As things stand, Tottenham’s move for Disasi is all but over, as per Sami Mokkbel, although Spurs had tried to reignite the chase, having found an agreement with Chelsea earlier. Aston Villa have now agreed to take the 26-year-old Chelsea ace on loan for the remainder of the season, as David Ornstein shed light on the potential fee; Villa will pay £5 million, the same as Spurs had agreed with the Blues.
The deal will be a straight loan without any sort of buy option, as Aston Villa are close to landing their preferred defensive target, albeit for the remainder of the season. Emery will be relieved, as he only recently lost Tyrone Mings to another injury, and Disasi’s arrival will soften that particular blow for the Birmingham-based side.
