West Ham United weigh up Isaac Romero swoop

West Ham United might look to sign 24-year-old Spanish striker Isaac Romero from La Liga club Sevilla in a deal worth €30 million ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Isaac Romero is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers have been scouring the market for a striker heading into the winter transfer window. So, the Sevilla forward has emerged as a target, with the East London club mulling over a deal worth €30 million to sign the 24-year-old ahead of Monday’s deadline.

Who is Isaac Romero?

Isaac Romero has had to bide his time before breaking into the first-team squad at Sevilla FC. A native of Lebrija, the Spaniard spent his formative years in the Andalusian region, passing through the academies at three clubs before graduating from the youth division at CA Antoniano.

The 24-year-old returned to Sevilla in July 2019 before spending a long time with the Andalusian club’s reserve side. Romero broke into the first-team squad at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium midway through the 2023/24 season and has become a regular since then.

The Spanish striker has turned out 35 times thus far for Sevilla while chipping in with nine goals and six assists, with Los Nervionenses’ struggles in La Liga helping him grab more opportunities. Meanwhile, the player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe, including West Ham United.

London calling?

West Ham United’s interest in Isaac Romero is understandable. The Hammers have been scouring the market for a striker heading into the winter transfer window. Niclas Fullkrug and Michail Antonio are long-term absentees for the East London club, with Danny Ings the only out-and-out centre-forward in Graham Potter’s squad.

So, several candidates, including Eli Junior Kroupi, have emerged on West Ham United’s radar, with Romero also a viable target. The report has suggested that the Hammers are mulling over proposing a deal worth €30 million to sign the 24-year-old Spaniard from La Liga club Sevilla.

However, it is unclear if Romero will join West Ham or if the East London club will offer €30 million to sign the Spanish striker, considering Evan Ferguson is on the verge of arriving on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion.
