Tottenham wanted to pass on Sergio Reguilon to Crystal Palace before Ben Chilwell move

Tottenham were looking to sell outcast Sergio Reguilon to Crystal Palace before they push for Ben Chilwell’s signature.

Tottenham are looking to get Sergio Reguilon off their books on the winter transfer deadline day. According to a report from TBR Football, the North London club were looking to pass him onto Crystal Palace with Ange Postecoglou ready to sanction his departure. While Spurs were hoping the Eagles would sign the Spanish international, they are now all set to sign Chelsea outcast Ben Chilwell.

Sergio Reguilon joined the North London club in the summer of 2020 from Real Madrid. While he was a key figure in their team in the initial years, things have only gone downhill for him in recent seasons. The Spaniard pent the last two seasons out on loan, and Spurs were looking to get him off their books during the summer transfer window.

Things did not go according to plan, and he ended up staying at the North London club. The Spanish full-back has only featured in a total of five matches for their first team despite the fact that they are going through a major injury crisis.

Sergio Reguilon is clearly not in Ange Postecoglou’s plans, and Spurs are pushing to sanction his departure as they do not intend to pay his wages until the end of the season when his contract runs out.

Crystal Palace no longer interested in Reguilon

Tottenham have already informed Sergio Reguilon that he is free to leave the club in the ongoing window. While the Lilywhites are not completely against keeping him because of the injury crisis, they have been trying to move him on with Crystal Palace looking to sign a new left-back.

With Destiny Udogie closing in on a return and Djed Spence putting in impressive performances, Tottenham look well covered at left-back. As a result, Reguilon’s departure won’t really affect them. The Eagles were interested in his services, and Spurs were looking to pass him on.

But, things have not gone according to plan for Tottenham as Crystal Palace have shifted their attention towards signing Ben Chilwell, who is surplus to requirements at Chelsea. The Eagles are close to securing Chilwell’s services which means Tottenham will have to look for an alternative destination for the 28-year-old full-back.
