Ben Chilwell set to complete loan move to Crystal Palace

Chelsea outcast Ben Chilwell is reportedly all set to complete a deadline-day loan move to fellow London club Crystal Palace.

Ben Chilwell was linked with a move away from Chelsea throughout last summer’s transfer window, but things did not go according to plan for him. The Englishman has been surplus to requirements at the West London club, and je is finally set to part ways with them.

According to a report from Sky Sports, Crystal Palace have struck a deal with the Blues to sign Chilwell on loan for the remainder of the campaign. He is expected to undergo his medical today before the transfer is made official.

Ben Chilwell joined the Blues in the summer of 2020 in a deal worth £50 million. He went on to win the Champions League with them in 2021. While he was a key figure in their first team in the initial years, the 28-year-old is no longer an important part of their plans.

Chelsea were ready to sanction his departure in the summer, and the player was also pushing for a move away. Unfortunately, a deal could not be struck for him to part ways with the club. The English full-back has only featured in 1 EFL Cup fixture for the Blues in the first half of the season, making it quite clear that he has no future under Enzo Maresca.

Crystal Palace win race for Ben Chilwell

Chilwell has been linked with quite a few clubs since the start of the winter window and finally seems to have found a new destination in Crystal Palace. The Englishman would have preferred a permanent move away from the London club, but he won’t mind a temporary switch as it will allow him to get some important minutes under his belt.

While the Eagles already have Daniel Munoz and Tyrick Mitchell in their squad, they want more quality on the left flank and see Ben Chilwell as an upgrade in that position. They were in talks with the Blues regarding a loan deal and have finally managed to strike a deal.

Chilwell was keen on making the move to Selhurst Park, and he is now expected to undergo his medical as a new Crystal Palace player on transfer deadline day.
