Manchester United considering Senne Lammens swoop

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing 22-year-old Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens amid Ruben Amorim’s concerns about Andre Onana’s performances.

According to a report by The Sun, Senne Lammens is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a goalkeeper ahead of the two transfer windows next year and have set their sights on the 22-year-old Royal Antwerp prospect. Altay Bayindir might leave Manchester United next year, while Ruben Amorim is concerned about Andre Onana’s performances.

Who is Senne Lammens?

Senne Lammens is the latest goalkeeper to rise in prominence in his homeland. Thibaut Courtois has kick-started a train of top-notch shot-stoppers in Belgium, with Matz Sels, Koen Casteels, and Thomas Kaminski also making their mark in recent years. Lammens will hope to be the long-term first-choice goalkeeper for the Red Devils.

A native of Zottegem, the youngster spent his formative years in Belgium and graduated from the youth division at Club Brugge. However, the 22-year-old has risen in prominence since joining Royal Antwerp in July 2023, going from strength to strength in the last 18 months.

The Belgian goalkeeping prospect has turned out nearly 50 times thus far for Royal Antwerp, keeping seven clean sheets, with most outings coming this season. Meanwhile, Lammens’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Manchester United might be one of his prospective suitors next year.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Manchester United’s interest in Senne Lammens is understandable. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a goalkeeper ahead of the two transfer windows. Altay Bayindir faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford after struggling to make his mark since arriving from Fenerbahce in the 2023 summer transfer window.

In addition, Ruben Amorim is increasingly concerned about the performances of Andre Onana. So, the Manchester United manager wants a top-notch goalkeeper to compete with the Cameroonian international. Lammens has thus emerged as a viable and economical target for the Premier League heavyweights, with Royal Antwerp valuing him at £20 million.

Considering Manchester United’s brewing economic issues, a price tag of £20 million makes Lammens an attractive target. It will be interesting to see if the 22-year-old Belgian goalkeeping prospect arrives at Old Trafford next year.
