Newcastle United prepared to pay €22 million to sign Denzel Dumfries

Newcastle United are reportedly willing to fork out €22 million to sign 28-year-old Dutch wing-back Denzel Dumfries from Serie A club Inter Milan next year.

According to a report by Italian outlet Inter Live, Denzel Dumfries is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are keen on signing a right-back amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Kieran Trippier. So, the Inter Milan wing-back has emerged as a viable target for the Tyneside outfit, and they are ready to pay €22 million to secure his services in 2025.

Denzel Dumfries and his Inter Milan career so far

Denzel Dumfries has been a dependable performer for Inter Milan since arriving from PSV Eindhoven in August 2021. While the Dutchman has not been the undisputed first-choice right wing-back for the Nerazzurri in the last three years, he has played his part in the club’s success during his spell at San Siro.

The 28-year-old has turned out 134 times thus far for Inter Milan while chipping in with 11 goals and 20 assists. However, Dumfries faces an uncertain future at San Siro after entering the final 12 months of his contract with the Nerazzurri.

While the Serie A champions have been working on a new contract for several weeks, an agreement has not materialised. Meanwhile, Denzel Dumfries’s situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Newcastle United.

Newcastle United interested in Dumfries

Newcastle United considered signing Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan last summer. However, the links led to nowhere, although the continued interest makes sense. With Kieran Trippier facing an uncertain future at St. James’ Park after losing the role of club captaincy and his status as the first-choice right-back, Newcastle United must identify a replacement.

Recent reports have claimed Newcastle United might part ways with Trippier in the January transfer window. So, Dumfries has emerged as a viable target to replace the veteran Englishman, with the Tyneside outfit preparing a bid worth €22 million to secure his services.

That might be a steep valuation for a player in the final six months of his contract. However, a bid worth €22 million might be enough to convince Inter Milan to part ways with the 28-year-old Dutch wing-back in the winter transfer window.
